Welcome to the City of Atlanta, Department of Aviation’s master plan website.

The City of Atlanta, Department of Aviation completed a new master plan for Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport in early 2015. This plan defines the Airport’s short- and long-term development needs in order to continue providing the best possible service to metro Atlanta and all of our customers throughout the world.

The world class Maynard H. Jackson Jr. International Terminal was the final element of the development program born from the 1999 Master Plan, which also included the fifth runway (Runway 10-28), the rental car center, and many airfield and terminal projects. These projects have improved customer service at the Airport and positioned it to accommodate growth in demand.

The new master plan focuses on the future and maintaining the Airport’s role as the region’s economic driver and a gateway to the world. The master plan process assessed expected growth in activity in the region and at the Airport, determined the existing facilities’ ability to meet that future demand, and identified potential development solutions. The master plan study ultimately identified Hartsfield-Jackson’s development path through 2030.
