Airport launches countdown to rental car center
Hartsfield-Jackson’s new facility will streamline process for customers
ATLANTA — Big changes are just around the corner at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. Airport officials today announced the start of a public awareness campaign to inform customers about the Airport’s state-of-the-art rental car center and ATL SkyTrain.
When Hartsfield-Jackson’s new rental car center opens in November, rental car companies operating in the passenger terminal will move to the new location. The center will house all of these companies’ customer transaction counters and vehicles.
The benefits of the rental car center include:
• A dramatic improvement in customer service by streamlining and consolidating processes
• Better roadway access to the Airport for all passengers by removing more than 125 rental agency shuttle buses
• An economic catalyst for the surrounding area, spawning new development and opportunities
“We are counting down to the opening of a facility that is designed to meet our travelers’ current needs, while preparing us to accommodate increased demand in the future,” said Aviation General Manager Ben DeCosta. “In addition, this project represents a real economic stimulus by creating hundreds of jobs now and in the future, when the rental car center and the nearby Gateway complex, which also can be accessed by the ATL SkyTrain, are complete.”
The ATL SkyTrain is a new, elevated train that connects the passenger terminal to the rental car center. The ATL SkyTrain will take customers on a scenic, five-minute ride to the rental car center, where they will sign rental agency agreements and pick up cars.
Hartsfield-Jackson is the first airport in the country to open a rental car center and its associated people mover simultaneously.
DeCosta also announced the launch of a new set of Web pages dedicated to the rental car center. The pages, at www.atlanta-airport.com/RentalCarCenter, detail the important changes to the car rental process for passengers and provide step-by-step instructions for accessing the facility.
Along with news and answers to frequently asked questions, the new Web pages also feature videos, photos and other information about the center and the ATL SkyTrain.
How to access Hartsfield-Jackson's
new rental car center
1. Pick up your checked luggage at the north or south baggage claim area.
2. Follow the overhead signs and hallway placards to ground transportation and the rental car center.
3. Proceed out of the west end of the terminal under the covered walkway.
4. Take the escalator up to the station and board the ATL SkyTrain for the five-minute ride to the rental car center.
