Hartsfield-Jackson offers tips for stress-free holiday travel
Prearing for takeoff with these simple steps saves passengers time and energy
ATLANTA — Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport is advising passengers to follow some simple tips — such as leaving gifts unwrapped inside luggage and removing coats before going through the security checkpoints — to take the stress out of holiday travel and save time.
“We’re wishing everyone a safe and happy holiday season this winter,” said Aviation General Manager Ben DeCosta. “As passengers prepare to travel to their destinations, following these simple steps will reduce hassles and create a more pleasurable airport travel experience.”
Tips for stress-free travel:
- Arrive 90 minutes before domestic flights and two hours before international flights.
- Trak-a-Flight, the Airport’s free service that delivers updated flight information to e-mail accounts, PDAs or mobile devices. Check security wait times online at www.atlanta-airport.com.
- Take your pet to Hartsfield-Jackson’s new dog park for a last-minute pit stop. It’s a fully fenced, 1,000-square-foot area on the south end of the Ground Transportation center. The area contains rock as well as grass, benches, artwork and Mutt Mitts, biodegradable bags for pet waste.
- Remember that the process for renting cars at the Airport is new, following the opening this month of the state-of-the-art rental car center and ATL SkyTrain, the elevated train that connects the main passenger terminal to the new facility.
- Call 1-877-ATL-PARK or visit the Airport’s Web site (www.atlanta-airport.com) for information about parking availability. Take advantage of the Airport’s more than 8,000 spaces in the convenient Park-Ride lots, which cost only $9 per day and offer shuttle service to the terminal.
- Use the Airport’s hourly parking lots when picking up or dropping off passengers. Parking in these lots is free for the first 15 minutes and costs just $1 an hour for the first two hours. Unattended vehicles parked at the curb will be ticketed and towed.
- Carry-on baggage is limited to one bag plus one personal item per passenger. Personal items include purses, briefcases, laptop computers and backpacks. Contact your airline for additional details.
- Remove coats and take laptop computers out of their cases before going through security.
- Wait until you reach your destination to wrap presents. Wrapped gifts may be opened and inspected in some cases.
