Hartsfield-Jackson to open cell phone lot

ATLANTA — Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport on Thursday morning will open a cell phone lot for motorists waiting to pick up passengers.

“Since I began at Hartsfield-Jackson, customers have asked for a cell phone lot, and I am happy that we now can provide it for them,” Aviation General Manager Louis Miller said. “Our new cell phone lot will ease traffic congestion on Airport roadways and reduce our carbon footprint by reducing fuel use and emissions.”

Cell phone lots are popular at airports because they allow those picking up passengers to wait, free of charge, until the passengers arrive at the curb. The lots also benefit other drivers and the environment by reducing the number of idling vehicles on the roadways around the Airport.

The 160-space cell phone lot is along South Terminal Parkway at the east end of the Park-Ride Reserve lot. Users may access it from a new driveway on the right side of South Terminal Parkway.

Drivers waiting in the cell phone lot can check flight times by visiting the Airport’s mobile website,, on their mobile devices. Airport officials will monitor the lot, and vehicles cannot be left unattended.

In addition to the cell phone lot, Hartsfield-Jackson has more than 30,000 on-site parking spaces in the hourly, economy, daily, Gold and Park-Ride lots. The first 15 minutes are free in the hourly lots.
