Airport to Provide Live Musical Performances
by Triphenya Bailey
On at least five different occasions during 2006 passengers using Hartsfield-Jackson
Atlanta International Airport will have an opportunity to take in live musical
performances as part of the Airport Art Program’s Musical Series.
“A myriad of musical genres and bands are represented during our series,” explained David Vogt, one of two managers in the Airport Art Program. “We like to offer travelers a unique and relaxing atmosphere during the live performances,” he explained.
The majority of the concerts take place in the Atrium during the late afternoon and early evening hours, however some performers roam the concourses during the Christmas season.
High-energy musicians share their talents and entertain passersby with various sets of instrumental, contemporary jazz, rhythm and blues, gospel and Latin-inspired music during the various Music Series that typically run from February to December. Past performances have inspired some onlookers to grab their partners by the hand and participate in an impromptu two-step.
During Hispanic Heritage Month, which runs from mid-September until mid-October, Program managers plan to feature various artists on Wednesday evenings from 5 to 7 p.m. “The specific musicians will be revealed closer to event dates, but we have several music series scheduled,” said Vogt, adding that the Thanksgiving and Christmas seasons will likely see two-weeks of performances.
