Hartsfield-Jackson Conference Center Reaches the Big 10
by Felicia J. Browder

The Executive Conference Center (ECC) at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport is 10 years old.  Having opened during the 1996 Summer Olympics, it has hosted thousands of people and continued successfully through the ups and downs of the aviation industry.

Lenoir Stallings, director of the Center, came aboard just one year after it opened.  It was a fresh new challenge, as she has been employed with the City of Atlanta since 1977.  She lights up like a child eager to open Christmas gifts when she speaks of the growth and success of the ECC. She says that her position as director fits her demeanor and “Everything has fallen in place,” since she began in 1997.

“I have a passion for it,” Stallings said.  “We’re top-notch and I want the ECC to be known as one of the world’s best conference centers.”  Her vision is well on its way to fruition.

Having opened with just three employees, no food service and limited accommodations during business hours only, the Center has grown by leaps and bounds.  It now employs seven; offers full-service dining packages, and offers 23 meeting rooms configurable in a number of ways, at any hour, replete with cutting edge multimedia technology.

The ECC has contributed to Hartsfield-Jackson’s overall mission to be "the world's best airport by exceeding customer expectations," as it has maintained an average 94 percent rating on meeting evaluation surveys.

As much as she strives to improve the Center, Stallings also works to develop herself.  She has earned two industry specific credentials: a Certified Meeting Professional designation from the Convention Industry Council and a Certified Hospitality Sales Professional designation from the American Hotel and Lodging Association’s Educational Institute.

Stallings says the ECC at Hartsfield-Jackson is unique, as it is the only full-service, fully-staffed conference center inside an airport that is certified by the International Association of Conference Centers.
