Economy Lot Parkers Able to Ride Shuttle Carts to Terminal
By Triphenya Bailey
Thanks to the recent arrival of a fleet of parking shuttle carts, passengers
parking their vehicles in either the North or South Economy Lot can now
opt for a complimentary ride to the pedestrian crosswalks near the Atlanta
Airport terminal entrance.
The shuttle carts have begun to reduce the passenger footwork required for the trek from the outlying Economy lots. In early May five vehicles were delivered to Hartsfield-Jackson International and they have become a welcome sight for the energy- and time-constrained passengers, as well as elderly and physically challenged customers.
"Our observations show an average use rate of 3,000 to 3,700 passengers per week," said Assistant Manager of Parking Tracy Harrison. "Our demand has, thus far, been greater on the South Terminal side," she explained.
The shuttle carts seat six people (one driver and five customers) and they have the storage capacity to accommodate approximately six 26-inch bags. "Depending on the number of riders and available space, we try to limit the luggage to one bag per person," explained Harrison.
Two shuttles are assigned to the North Economy lot and two are assigned to the South lot. The fifth shuttle tram is used as a back-up vehicle.
"This new courtesy shuttle cart service is just another customer service we want to provide Airport Parking customers," explained Parking Manager Katie Stanciel.
The courtesy shuttle carts are available daily between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and midnight. For more information on Airport Parking availabilities and related services, visit the parking Web page at www.atlanta-airport.com.
