Walkers Can Gauge the Distance Between Concourses
By By Triphenya Bailey

If you’ve ever wondered how far the walk is between Concourse A and Concourse B inside the Atlanta Airport, signs that were recently installed in the corridors connecting the concourses now reveal that information.

With a general distance ranging from 900 to 1,000 feet between each concourse, the overhead signage in the Transportation Mall is designed to inform “would-be walkers” and exercise-seekers of the ensuing trek ahead of them.

“The goal of the project is to inform the traveling public of the distances between various concourses so they can estimate the amount of time it will take to go from one concourse to another, if they decide to walk instead of ride the train,’’ commented Sham Pendharkar, a Department of Aviation employee who presented the idea for the signage to a team of planning and innovation specialists with the Department.

As one of the most frequently asked questions Pendharkar received from passengers, he thought posting the information would be a beneficial service. “When walking in the pedestrian mall I was asked many times by passengers ‘how far is it from this point?’ and so on,” he said.
