Rental Car Complex Construction Update
By Charisma Cannon

Does it seem you are seeing the landscape of the Airport change before your very eyes? Yes, change is coming.

Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport is full swing into its second of six ambitious projects under the $6.2 billion Hartsfield-Jackson Development Program. The Automated People Mover, a rail system to accompany the Consolidated Rental Car (CONRAC) facility, is nearing completion. Huge vertical columns, as well as the guide-way system (the structure that will support the tracks and guide the trains), can be seen as you enter the Airport. In addition to the completion of changes in the Ground Transportation Center, the foundation for the CONRAC central passenger terminal station has been completed and is ready for the next phase of construction.

Drawings for CONRAC itself are currently being reviewed by the construction manager at-risk to ensure that the Airport is receiving the best cost benefit for the project. Structural drawings are complete for the entire facility, and construction is anticipated to begin during the first quarter of 2007.

To view renderings of CONRAC and the associated Automated People Mover, or for more information on the Hartsfield-Jackson Development Program, log on to the Airport construction page on our Web site: www.atlanta-airport.com.
