Delta Holds Bell-Ringing Ceremony to Commemorate
Reemergence
By Pamela Wilson

|
After two turbulent years, which
included being in bankruptcy protection and rebuffing a hostile
takeover, Delta leaders, employees, and partners were all smiles
May 3 as the company officially emerged from Chapter 11 and
re-listed its common stock on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE).
|
To symbolize the Opening Bell of the NYSE,
hundreds of Delta employees and well-wishers gathered in the
Delta International Ticketing Lobby to ring tiny red, white
or blue bells while they watched a live satellite feed from
New York. Meanwhile, a public address system blared out the
perennial celebration mantra, “Let’s celebrate.”
Hundreds of people did just that by hugging, giving high fives,
cheering, and even crying, in acknowledgement of their long
journey and ultimate victory.

After the morning event, Delta flew
a group of executives, employees, customers, and guests to New York
to ring the Closing Bell from the NYSE.
