Airport’s Job Fair Attracts Hundreds of Applicants
By Triphenya Bailey
Nearly 1,300 job applicants filed into the Georgia International Convention Center on April 11 for the Atlanta Airport’s most recent Job Fair designed to match job seekers with hiring companies and agencies associated with Hartsfield-Jackson Airport.
Cargo handling companies such as United Parcel Service and air carriers such as Delta Air Lines and AirTran Airways ensured their recruitment specialists were on hand to speak with prospective employees during the five-hour event. Rental car agencies Avis and Hertz also participated in the hiring fair that featured recruiters from as many as 25 different companies.
The Airport-sponsored job fairs were launched in the late 1990s to give job seekers aspiring to work at the world’s busiest airport an opportunity to meet face-to-face with Airport employers. “We wanted to provide a pipeline, so to speak, of potential employees for companies operating at the Airport,” explained Bob Picariello, a community affairs specialist with Hartsfield-Jackson Office of Public Affairs.
