Taxi Ambassadors Ensure a Smooth Experience
By DeAllous Smith
Taxi Ambassador Karla Floyd stands ready for any passenger who needs assistance while navigating through the Ground Transportation Center at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.
With taxi operations conducted 24 hours a day, the Center accommodates up to three taxi ambassadors in the West Curb Area and up to two taxi dispatchers in the Taxi Assembly Area at any given moment.
Wearing red jackets, the service-oriented team assists with many functions including greeting travelers and providing general information about the Airport and the city of Atlanta. Taxi ambassadors also distribute customer survey forms that outline passengers’ rights.
“Taxi Ambassadors provide a sense of calmness to travelers, as they navigate through the West Curb Area,” said Taxi Manager Gerry Floyd. “Every day, we have a talented team of professionals working to ensure that our customers travel from point A to point B without any major hiccups.”
On one particular morning in March, Ms. Floyd assisted a wheel-chair bound passenger who appeared to be in search of shuttle service.
“When I approached the customer, she indicated that someone had placed her at the curb, but never returned,” said Ms. Floyd. “She wanted a shuttle heading to Snellville. So, I took her bags and escorted her to the appropriate staging area.”
As a sign of appreciation, the customer wrote aviation officials a seven-page letter detailing her gratitude. “I never expected to receive a written thank you note,” added Ms. Floyd. “I was very appreciative of her acknowledgement.”
