Memorial Day Travel Brings 1.3 Million Passengers

Aviation officials projected more than 1.33 million travelers passed through the world’s busiest airport during the Memorial Day travel period, which began Thursday, May 24 and ended Tuesday, May 29.
“The airlines and Airport witnessed significant activity during the six-day period,” said Chief Management Analyst Alrene Barr. “Overall, the forecast represented a 2.98 percent increase over 2006 numbers.”
Advanced travel bookings indicated that Friday, May 25 was the busiest travel day of the period with 267,388 travelers passing through Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport on that day alone.
In 2006, Hartsfield-Jackson retained the title of world’s busiest airport by accommodating more than 84.5 million passengers.
The facility is served by 33 airlines and averaged 230,000 travelers and 2,700 flights each day in 2006.
