FAMILY FUN

Family Fun in the Atlanta Airport

By Triphenya Bailey

Traveling with youngsters through an airport can add extra challenges and extra opportunities for the little ones to explore. Whether you’re faced with navigating a bulky stroller through the security checkpoint or dashing to a departure gate with a talkative toddler tagging along behind you, we hope this list of family-friendly aspects of Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport is helpful.

Play Areas

  • Passengers traveling with small children will find the sturdy, plastic sliding boards and play areas near Gate A8 and Gate A23 an added bonus, especially if the kids have extra energy they need to burn.
  • Play Station re-charging units are located throughout the concourses.

Airport Art Program

  • An extensive 20-piece exhibit of Zimbabwean stone sculptures greets families in a museum-type setting in the transportation mall and moving sidewalk corridors from Concourse T to Concourse A.
  • Various displays of artwork created by children in grades kindergarten through 12 are located throughout the Airport. The Youth Art is a component of the City of Atlanta Department of Aviation Airport Art Program.
  • A replica of a 33-foot-long dinosaur greets and entertains visitors to the Airport Atrium. The Yangchuanosaurus skeleton is provided by Atlanta’s Fernbank Museum of Natural History.

Kid-Friendly Restaurants and Shops

  • Kidsworks in the Atrium near the Main Security Checkpoint caters to the young traveler with its offering of crayons, coloring books, backpacks, travel sized board games and the like. If you need a kid’s gift, this is the place to shop.
  • Kids’ meals are offered on the menus of Airport concessionaires such as Wendy’s, McDonald’s and Burger King while kid-friendly menus are available at Chili’s and TGIFriday’s. The individual sized pizzas available at Pizza Hut and Domino’s are also a favorite among the young and old alike.
  • Ice cream is available at Ben and Jerry’s (on concourses A, B and C) or Edy’s Ice Cream in the Atrium.
  • An assortment of gum and candy is available at the Sweet Factory kiosks on concourses B and C and at Candy Express in the Atrium.
