Hartsfield-Jackson Tops in Customer Service Excellence

Where else in this country can you ride the bus to work in the morning and drive home that evening in a brand new SUV?

Anna Strickland of Delta Air Lines, Inc. found out that the answer to that question is Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.

The Customer Service Division of Hartsfield-Jackson took time out October 4, 2007 to honor a cross section of its more than 55,000 employees for going far beyond the call of their normal duties.

From simple things like guiding passengers who’ve lost their way to major acts of service like rescuing travelers from medical emergencies, employees were recognized with a few hours of feasting, prizes and entertainment.

The festivities worked their way to a joyous finale when Strickland received the day’s top honor: the Hartsfield-Jackson Superstar Award and a 2007 Ford Edge SUV for aiding a sick passenger. The ailing passenger was headed home to San Francisco and in desperate need of medication from her doctor there. Strickland flew all the way to San Francisco with the passenger to make sure she got there safely. There were countless stories like this one.

One ironic twist to the day’s events, was that the 12th annual celebration coincided with Aviation General Manger Ben DeCosta picking up a copy of the October issue of Executive Travel Magazine and discovering that Hartsfield-Jackson had garnered the publication’s Leading Edge Award for Best U.S. Airport, beating out Denver and Dallas/Fort Worth respectively. During his remarks to employees, he held up the magazine.

“This is all because of you and your hard work,” DeCosta said to the group of 300-plus employees. “You strive each day to serve our customers, and you do it well.”

Executive Travel publishes its Leading Edge Award recipients each year after polling its readers on various travel categories, to include best domestic airline, best airline for customer service and best international airport.
