Aviation Department Gets Awarded Diversity Leadership Award
By Roishina C. Henderson
If diversity is the spice of life, then consider the Aviation Department fresh rosemary.
And for its leadership efforts, the division was honored recently by the Atlanta chapter of Women in Transportation Seminar (WTS).
Shelley Lamar, Hartsfield-Jackson’s community and land use planning director, accepted the award during the 2007 Annual Scholarship Luncheon at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in downtown Atlanta.

“On behalf of Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, I am honored to receive the inaugural Diversity Leadership Award from the Atlanta Chapter of WTS,” Lamar said during the luncheon. “The Department of Aviation and the Hartsfield-Jackson Development Program have been committed to providing a diverse work environment and to ensuring that contracting opportunities are open to all. It is especially rewarding to be recognized by organizations of your peers.”
Catherine Ross, director of Georgia Tech’s Center for Quality Growth and Regional Development, served as keynote speaker. Ross spoke about embracing diversity in the workplace. “The world is more global, and there is more focus on ethnic diversity,” Ross said. “Every industry is challenged to embrace and pursue diversity in order to become more attractive in the marketplace.”
