More than 2,800 Applicants Attend Airport Job Fair
Event draws record numbers
By DeAllous Smith
There were business suits and power ties. Resumes here. Cover letters there
– and, of course, thousands of job-seekers hoping to, well, land that
dream job at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.
That was much the scene on Oct. 31 as more than 2,800 people converged on
the Georgia International Convention Center for the Airport’s Fall
2007 Job Fair. Once doors opened at 11 a.m., interested candidates strolled
through the ballroom and spoke directly with company representatives to
learn about their recruiting process and discuss employment opportunities.

“I’m very excited to be a part of this job fair,” said greeter Linda Ballard of Express Personnel. “This event allows individuals interested in working at the Airport a rare opportunity to meet with potential employers on-site, which is very encouraging to the candidates.”
Attendees met with prospective employers who represented a wide range of
areas at the Airport, including airlines, car rental agencies, retail, food
and beverage outlets, and construction companies.
As the event began to end at 4 p.m., Ballard recalled her family’s
excitement while attending a previous fair. “My husband’s first
experience in Atlanta was with the Airport’s job fair. The volunteers
and employers were extremely knowledgeable and helpful in making his transition
to a new city a seamless process,” said the two-year volunteer. “Participating
as a greeter in the job fair has provided an excellent opportunity for me
to interact with and assist others, just as we were, which is very rewarding.”
Hartsfield-Jackson’s job fairs are currently scheduled in May and
October. Aviation officials will publish additional information about the
next job fair as the event approaches.
