"Forbes.com named Hartsfield-Jackson in February as the world’s top airport with Wi-Fi connectivity. " |
The sprawling 5.8 million square-foot facility launched an extensive antenna system in 2005 that made it the largest Wi-Fi hot spot in the world.
“I have some real geniuses who make things happen,” said Lance Lyttle, chief information officer for Hartsfield-Jackson. “It is a recognition that is to be shared among our 40-plus staff of information technology specialists.”
Since the launch of wireless fidelity at Hartsfield-Jackson, close to 900,000 customers and airline passengers have logged on to the Airport’s splash page, where Internet browsers can choose from about a half-dozen wireless providers.
“We wanted to make sure that our implementation was customer-centric and all Airport customers would have access to Wi-Fi regardless of where they were in the Airport,” said Lyttle. “We know that it was important that there was coverage in every square foot of the Airport.”
