Jones Leads Airport Police Division Maj. Shawn L. Jones was appointed head of the Atlanta Police Department’s Airport Section at Hartsfield-Jackson in June 2008. Jones was appointed major in May 2007 and previously served as head of the Human Resources section downtown. He began his career with the Atlanta Police Department in 1986 as a police officer assigned to the Zone Four precinct. Airport Hosts Fall Job Fair An estimated 6,000 job seekers convened at the Georgia International Convention Center (GICC) to attend the Airport’s fall job fair in hopes of landing a career at the world’s busiest airport. Prospective employers from various companies included the Department of Aviation, United Parcel Service, MARTA and representatives from the Georgia Department of Labor.
Final CONRAC People Mover Cars Arrive Fresh off a cargo ship from Osaka, Japan, the final eight people mover cars have arrived at the Consolidated Rental Car (CONRAC) facility. When CONRAC opens in November 2009, the two-car trains will quickly ferry passengers between the Airport terminal and CONRAC’s customer service center. The five-minute trip will have an intermediate stop at the Georgia International Convention Center.
One Flew South Lands at Hartsfield-Jackson Get ready for an upscale dining-travel experience. One Flew South restaurant, which offers cocktails, wine and a menu that features premium ingredients from regional farmers, opened November 12 on Concourse E. Headed up by renowned chefs Duane Nutter and Todd Richards, One Flew South is one of more than 70 new stores opening at the Airport. Expect such fare as sushi, pasta, sandwiches, New York strip and seafood ($6-$26). Philadelphia Leaders Attend Development Conference Aviation Assistant General Manager Arnaldo Ruiz participated in a panel discussion recently during the Greater Philadelphia Leadership Exchange conference in Atlanta. Ruiz was a panelist during the group's “Planes, Trains & Automobiles: Getting Around in Metro Atlanta” session.
Delta Announces New International Flights Delta Air Lines launched new service from Atlanta to Mumbai, India, on November 1 as part of its continued international expansion. AirTran Expands Flight Services Just in time for the holidays, AirTran Airways is expanding its flight services. The airline began service to Columbus, Ohio, on November 6, and will start new service to Cancun, Mexico, in February 2009. Workshop Addresses Flight Diversions Hartsfield-Jackson hosted a workshop designed to enhance the lines of communications between the Airport and its “diversion partners” – Southeast airports that would receive flights diverted from Hartsfield-Jackson. “The aviation industry must stay focused on how diversions can disrupt the traveling public,” said Robert Kennedy, Hartsfield-Jackson assistant general manager. Approximately 35 participants representing nine airports, the Federal Aviation Administration, U.S. Customs and Border Protection and the Georgia Department of Transportation attended. Delta Air Lines and Air Tran customer service executives also attended. |
