Airport parking officials prepare for maintenance project
By DeAllous Smith

Aviation officials expect motorists to experience minimal disruption when a $4 million project gets under way in April to replace joint seals in Hartsfield-Jackson’s Terminal North and South parking structures.

The Department of Aviation expects to receive a notice to proceed within a month and to complete the project before the Thanksgiving holiday travel season.

“Once the notice is issued, crews will begin working in the Terminal North parking decks and move to the Terminal South parking decks by midsummer,” said Katie Stanciel, aviation parking manager. “All parking structures will remain open and operational during the project.”

Although some parking spaces will be blocked off at different stages of the project, Stanciel remains confident that there will be sufficient parking for travelers.

“We offer more than 30,000 on-site parking spaces at the Airport, which provide ample options for motorists, including covered parking decks and 1,300 new parking spaces in the Silver Reserve parking lot,” Stanciel said. “Parking is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.”

Airport courtesy officers will patrol the parking structures to identify available parking spaces and assist customers.
