Airport again named most efficient
By Staff Writers

For the seventh year in a row, the Air Transport Research Society (ATRS) has recognized Hartsfield-Jackson with its Award of Excellence for Efficiency, this year as the most efficient airport in North America. The award is a reflection of Hartsfield-Jackson's productivity, efficiency and low costs, including the lowest passenger costs for the airlines.

"We are delighted that ATRS has chosen Hartsfield-Jackson once again as the most efficient airport in North America," said Aviation General Manager Ben DeCosta. "We work constantly to provide excellent service for everyone who uses our facility. In addition, our recent, extensive security expansion and the opening of more than 70 new, exciting concessions this year have improved the travel experience even more for our 250,000 daily passengers."

The award, based on data compiled by the ATRS Global Airport Benchmarking Task Force, was announced in late June at the 13th annual ATRS World Conference in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

The ATRS is the largest network of aviation academic researchers in the world and is part of the World Conference on Transport Research Society. The nonprofit organization has completed this global benchmarking project for eight years, using cutting-edge research to understand airports' best practices. A goal is to provide a comprehensive, unbiased assessment and comparison of airport performance based on more than 30 measures in categories such as productivity and efficiency, unit cost competitiveness, aviation user charge levels, financial performance and customer service. The study covered about 150 airports and airport groups worldwide.

Hartsfield-Jackson earned the ATRS Global Excellence Award in 2003, 2004, 2006, 2007 and 2008. The Airport won the ATRS's North American award in 2005. The Global Excellence Award category was discontinued this year. For more information, go to http://www.atrsworld.org.

Aviation Deputy General Manager Mario Diaz accepted the award on behalf of Hartsfield-Jackson.
