September brings milestone for international concourse Whether visiting the city or connecting to other destinations, millions of international passengers have gotten their first glimpse of Atlanta and the United States at Hartsfield-Jackson’s Concourse E since it opened on September 21, 1994. This month the Airport celebrates the 15th anniversary of Concourse E and its ongoing legacy of creating global connections. When it opened for business, the 1.3 million-square-foot facility became the Airport’s primary concourse for international travel. During the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Concourse E began to gain an international reputation for its state-of-the-art technology, innovative architectural design, distinctive art and pleasant amenities. This reputation was enhanced in 2001, when four new gates were added, creating the 28-gate concourse that serves the Airport today. When Concourse E opened, about 3 million international passengers passed through Hartsfield-Jackson. At that time, the Airport offered service to 19 international destinations in 16 countries. In 2008, more than 9 million international passengers passed through Hartsfield-Jackson. This figure is predicted to grow to nearly 13 million by 2015. Today, the Airport offers nonstop service to more than 90 international destinations in 55 countries.
