Lights, camera and lots of action at Hartsfield-Jackson
By Roishina C. Henderson

Hartsfield-Jackson was ready for its close-ups in late September, when it portrayed itself in two major film productions, both by Warner Bros., just one week apart.

Scenes for “Due Date,” which features Robert Downey Jr., were filmed on September 23 on the top level of the Terminal South parking deck. “Life as We Know It” stars Katherine Heigl, Josh Lucas and Josh Duhamel; scenes were filmed on September 30 at the Delta Air Lines ticket counters and on Concourse T.

In “Due Date,” Downey plays an architect on a business trip who arrives at Hartsfield-Jackson and attempts to get to his California home in time for his child’s birth.

“Life as We Know It” is a romantic comedy, and Hartsfield-Jackson is the scene of a pivotal end-of-movie sequence as Heigl’s character arrives to catch a Delta Air Lines flight. The movie is being shot at several iconic metro Atlanta locations, including Piedmont Park, Buckhead and Philips Arena.

Both films are scheduled to be released in 2010.

Crews work on the filming of “Due Date” atop the Terminal South parking deck, which was representing a rental car area. Robert Downey Jr.’s character in the movie is renting a car to get home in time for his child’s birth.
