The announced departure of Aviation General Manager Ben DeCosta on January 25 was the subject of widespread media coverage. Many stories listed some of the large-scale developments accomplished during DeCosta’s tenure, such as the fifth runway, the rental car center and the start of work on the Maynard H. Jackson Jr. International Terminal, which is set to open in spring 2012.

Among the media outlets reporting on DeCosta’s decision not to renew his contract were USA Today, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Global Atlanta, and journalist/blogger Maria Saporta’s SaportaReport. The story first appeared on WSB-TV Channel 2, where it led the 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. broadcasts on January 25.

The Airport’s new dog park continued to get noticed by media throughout the country. The New York Times featured it in an In Transit blog on January 20. It also got mentions in the Galavanting online travel magazine and in Modern Dog magazine, which added, “Let’s hope that this becomes a trend.” USA Today commemorated Martin Luther King Jr. Day with a reminder in its Stuck at the Airport blog that Hartsfield-Jackson pays tribute year-round to the slain civil rights leader through an informative exhibit on Concourse E. The Atlanta Business Chronicle reported the opening of the Airport’s new Buckhead Books/Café Intermezzo location.
