Hartsfield-Jackson hosts annual Aviation Day at the Capitol

Officials from Hartsfield-Jackson will visit the Georgia State Capitol on February 4 to share information about the Airport with state lawmakers.

At Hartsfield-Jackson’s fifth annual Aviation Day at the Capitol, members of the Airport’s senior management, Fire Department and Police Department will enlighten state legislators on Airport projects, operations, plans for growth and accomplishments. The program is from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on the second floor of the South Hall.

“The members of the Georgia Legislature are among our top stakeholders,” Aviation General Manager Ben DeCosta said. “Aviation Day at the Capitol is an excellent way for the Airport team to provide this key audience with updates on the great work we’re doing at Hartsfield-Jackson.”

Walter Vinson, Aviation intergovernmental affairs manager, said much of the information will focus on the Airport’s capital improvement projects, such as the rental car center, which opened in December, and the Maynard H. Jackson Jr. International Terminal, which is under construction and expected to be completed in spring 2012.

“We are hoping lawmakers walk away from this event with a better understanding of what the Airport is doing for the entire state of Georgia,” Vinson said. “Through the knowledge shared during this program, we’re bringing pieces of the world’s busiest airport to the State Capitol.”

In 2009, Hartsfield-Jackson received the Award of Excellence for Efficiency from the Air Transport Research Society for the seventh consecutive year. The Airport employs more than 56,000 people, and it serves more than 90 million passengers per year.
