Hartsfield-Jackson welcomes new police commander
By Katena Carvajales and Sgt. David Wilson

On January 7, Maj. E. Renee Propes was assigned to Hartsfield-Jackson as its newest commander over the Atlanta Police Department’s (APD) Airport Section, replacing Maj. Shawn L. Jones, who was promoted to deputy chief and assigned to the APD’s Support Services Division.

“As the commander of the Atlanta Police Department Airport Section, I am responsible for the day-to-day operations of the police function,” Propes said. “We enforce all applicable state laws and county and city ordinances. We also support the overall security function here at Hartsfield-Jackson.

“The APD [Airport Section] is committed to enhancing the customer experience at the Airport by providing quality customer service. We strive to make this the safest airport in the world.”

Propes joined the Atlanta Police Department in January 1984. In January 2005, she was promoted to major and assigned to Zone 6. Since then, she has held positions in Zone 3, Special Operations, and the Narcotics and Vice units, and she has served as commander of the Crimes Against Children Unit and as assistant commander at the Airport.

Propes earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Georgia State University. She has graduated from several leadership and management academies, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation National Academy and the Senior Management Institute for Police at Harvard University.

Maj. E. Renee Propes now oversees the police presence at Hartsfield-Jackson. “We strive to make this the safest airport in the world,” she said.
