Airport launches mobile-friendly Web site

Hartsfield-Jackson’s new mobile Web site, which is designed to make information more easily accessible on mobile devices, is operational.

When people go to the Airport’s Web site, www.atlanta-airport.com, from a mobile device with Internet capabilities, they will see a streamlined, simplified version of the site. The Airport’s mobile site is geared toward providing what travelers need most, such as information about flights, parking, security wait times and concessions.

“Mobile technology has become one of the dominant means of how people access the Web today. This is especially the case in the travel industry, where people need to access information that may change quickly,” said Daver Malik, information technology support services manager. “Mobile devices pose a challenge to Internet access because of their relatively small screen size and battery life, so companies are creating sites that are particularly suited for access on mobile devices.”

He said that these sites have more text-based content and fewer images so that pages will load speedily.

The Airport officially launched the mobile site after a testing period, during which it solicited feedback. Readers of the Airport’s online newsletter and visitors to the Hartsfield-Jackson Facebook page were encouraged to try out the test site and provide their comments.
