RFPs go out for Airport concessions
By Amy Schneider

Hartsfield-Jackson has issued requests for proposals (RFPs) for its new concessions, which will include retail concessions on Concourse E and in the Maynard H. Jackson Jr. International Terminal and food and beverage concessions on concourses T, A, B, C and D and in the Atrium and the international terminal.

The RFPs are posted to the City of Atlanta’s website: www.atlantaga.gov/business/rfp_aviation.aspx.

The Airport believes the current concessions bids, for a total of 27 retail locations and 125 food and beverage locations, represent the largest procurement in North American airport history. Hartsfield-Jackson has adopted several regulations to ensure the diversity of concessionaires and to prevent one or two major players from dominating the Airport’s concessions.

Variety is particularly important when it comes to concessions in the international terminal, which is set to open in spring 2012.

“We are committed to providing a world-class variety of concepts and innovative products and services to meet the needs of our international passengers,” said Paul Brown, director of Concessions.

Brown said that the Airport is particularly interested in a few concepts: “fast casual,” which combines the speed of fast food with a bit more customer service involvement; gourmet markets, one of which is slated to be in the Atrium, that offer high-end food options; and a sustainable foods bookstore/café that features locally grown or produced, environmentally responsible foods and items for people with special dietary needs.

In seeking new concessionaires for these spaces, the Airport is focused on providing “best-in-class customer service, fresh standards, innovative services and a sense of place,” Brown said.

The Airport held a pre-proposal conference at the Georgia International Convention Center on April 5 and site tours on April 6 for prospective concessionaires.
