Airport deals are at passengers’ fingertips Need a quick bite to eat before a flight? Trying to save a buck? Well, smartphone users are in luck! Hartsfield-Jackson is using quick response (QR) codes to offer food, beverage and retail discounts to passengers. Hartsfield-Jackson is the first U.S. airport to offer this customer enhancement. “QR codes are a great customer service tool and an exciting way to let passengers know about all the shops, restaurants and services the Airport offers,” said Arnaldo Ruiz, assistant general manager for Commercial Development and Customer Service. When scanned, the QR codes direct passengers to the Airport’s mobile website, www.iflyatl.com, where they will find downloadable discount coupons for InMotion Entertainment, BlackBerry from Wireless Giant, Savannah’s Candy Kitchen and other Airport shops and restaurants. The mobile site also includes Airport maps and a store/restaurant locator. “QR codes allow us to engage directly with the customer and communicate in real time,” said Demetria Wideman, concessions marketing manager. “Passengers can view the website while at the Airport and determine if there is an offer that meets their needs by simply scanning the code.” The QR codes are printed on more than 30 advertising dioramas throughout the Airport. The concessions deals also are available on the Airport’s website at www.atlanta-airport.com/offers.
Daver Malik, interim chief information officer, scans the QR code with a smartphone at a news conference to introduce the new technology in the Airport Atrium on April 19.
