Employees complete disaster readiness training
By Katena Carvajales

Hartsfield-Jackson is making sure that its employees are ready for any potential emergency. Recently, about 20 employees completed training for the Atlanta Community Emergency Response Teams (ACERT) program.

“We wanted to prepare employees for evacuations and to assist others during a major incident,” said Jeremy Holloway, communications supervisor. “The aim was to get the first responders and key personnel for evacuations to participate, since they have an integral role during incidents. We hope they learned from the course and can use their knowledge at the Airport or in their communities.”

ACERT trains participants to:

  • Work as a team

  • Identify and anticipate hazards

  • Reduce hazards in the home and workplace

  • Extinguish small fires

  • Apply cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)

  • Apply basic medical techniques

  • Set up medical treatment areas

  • Help reduce stress during a disaster

Two sessions of the two-day class were held May 2-3 and June 13-14. A drill will be performed to test the participants’ knowledge of the material.
