Airport employees take the lead
Airport leaders continue to be leaders in their communities as well. Winston Cooper, manager of Hartsfield-Jackson’s Ground Transportation unit, and Walter Vinson, manager of government and community engagement, have been elected to serve as chairmen of the boards of directors for their local chambers of commerce.
“As chairman, one of my main goals is to attract more businesses and encourage them to become active partners with the chamber,” said Vinson, who this month begins his one-year term as chairman of the South Fulton Chamber of Commerce.
Before the election in November, Vinson had served as the chamber’s vice chairman of intergovernmental affairs.
“I’ve been an active member of the board for the last three years. It will be both an honor and a privilege to serve the community in my new capacity,” he said.
Cooper, who begins serving a one-year term as chairman of the Clayton County Chamber of Commerce this month, is pleased to represent the Airport in his new role. He previously was vice chairman of membership and credits his experience in aviation to the success that he’s achieved in Clayton County.
“I am honored to accept the chairman position,” he said. “Working at Hartsfield-Jackson, I have a unique and wonderful opportunity to interact with some of the best and brightest minds in the business. Their influence has taught me to think more strategically while focusing on measurable results, which, in the end, also benefits the chamber.”
Cooper’s goals for the Clayton County Chamber of Commerce include increasing membership and revenue and helping the organization reach its maximum potential.
Cooper and Vinson join a growing list of Airport employees who actively hold or once held such leadership positions. Shelley Lamar, planning manager at Hartsfield-Jackson, is a former chairwoman of and still serves on the Airport Area Chamber of Commerce board.
