New student exhibit debuts to honor troops
By Katena Carvajales

Students from Atlanta International School are the latest group to honor members of the U.S. armed forces who pass through the Airport. An exhibit of their art honoring the troops was unveiled on January 12 at the new location for the Personnel Assistance Point (PAP) at Hartsfield-Jackson.

The Atlanta Military Gateway Youth Art Program offers a rotating exhibit of students’ framed artworks that bear messages of hope, freedom, gratitude and welcome.

“Hartsfield-Jackson is proud to participate in the Atlanta Military Gateway Youth Art Program,” said Louis Miller, Aviation general manager. “We hope the students, through their artwork, can bring a message of support to the troops at the Airport.”

“A year ago, an idea was born to transform Hartsfield-Jackson’s U.S. military check-in area into a colorful, warm space filled with the artwork of young students from schools all over metro Atlanta,” said Valerie Hartman Levy, president of the Metro Atlanta Million Mom March. “I hope each soldier who passes through the military gateway is impacted in the most positive way — through the knowledge that the support and appreciation of Atlanta is with them wherever they go.”

The exhibit is behind the military check-in counters at Terminal North.

David Vogt, Airport Art Program manager, welcomes the students, teachers and military personnel in attendance at the unveiling of the exhibit on January 12.
