Achew! AeroClinic Helps Travelers Beat the Bug
By Herschel J. Grangent, Jr.

With hectic schedules, potential flight delays and extended wait times, traveling can be stressful enough to make you sick.

But not protecting yourself before, during or after your trip could make that sickness more literal than figurative.

The AeroClinic at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport is working to accommodate busy, health-conscious passengers by offering influenza vaccinations from a kiosk near the midpoint of Concourse C.

“We’ve been offering flu shots both in our main clinic [in the Atrium] and on Concourse C since October,” said Rosemary Kelly, the AeroClinic’s chief marketing officer. “Consistently we hear people say, ‘Oh, I’ve been meaning to get my flu shot.’ Now they can get them while they’re waiting for their flights. It is very convenient.”

The kiosk is staffed by AeroClinic personnel daily from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
There is a $35 fee, and Airport employees receive a $10 discount. So far, more than 3,000 flu shots have been administered.

With more than 85 million passengers passing through Hartsfield-Jackson each year, the potential to pass on airborne viruses is high.

AirTran flight attendant Bonnie Nettles says having a weapon to fight something like the flu is essential. “People come on the plane, and they don’t always realize they’re sick,” said Nettles. “We are exposed to a lot of germs, and this is a convenient way to protect against getting sick.”

The AeroClinic has plans to place similar kiosks on the Airport concourses for blood pressure screening, cholesterol screening and other preventive health services.
