Groups get early look at international terminal
As the Maynard H. Jackson Jr. International Terminal’s opening date (May 16) gets closer, some fortunate groups are getting sneak peeks through specially arranged tours.
On March 7, members of the Atlanta City Council got a tour of the nearly finished facility. A week later, 22 of the Airport’s biggest Twitter fans — including one from San Francisco — got that privilege.
Aviation General Manager Louis Miller and Mike Williams, project manager, led the council members and invited guests through the facility.
Williams pointed out several of its features, including the baggage handling system, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection stations, the 12 gates and the large-scale art installations.
Participants in the second tour were selected as part of a Twitter contest. They were encouraged to take photos of the international terminal — and, of course, to tweet about the experience.
“We have been building excitement about the international terminal by posting video and photo updates,” said Al Snedeker, Hartsfield-Jackson public relations manager, who organized the contest. “When we offered our Twitter followers a chance to get a firsthand view by retweeting certain messages, they jumped at the opportunity.”
