food and flowers fresh
CHILL
Through the Hartsfield-Jackson Perishables Complex, which is
properly called "a specialized handling facility," come a myriad
of items daily that need to CHILL, that is they need to be kept
at very low temperatures or they will wilt or spoil. You name
it and the Perishables Complex handles it, from flowers and seafood
to fresh fruits and vegetables. It's a 42,000 square foot-sized
place with four huge units that provide the coldest temperatures
imaginable for perishable items being shipped to and from Atlanta:
-5 degrees F (-20 degrees C ) ; 34 degrees F (1 degree C); 42
degrees F (5.6 degrees C); and 55 degrees F (12.7 degrees C).
Other operations at the complex include storage, transportation
and delivery, ice-making and supply, crating and packing, etc.
