Over 400 works of art have been purchased or commissioned for the collection from
a variety of artists since the Airport Art Program's inception in 1994. As a result,
the art on display in the Immigrations Corridor Gallery is as eclectic as it is
thought-provoking. Most works were acquired by single or small-scale purchases from
exhibitions held in the Atrium Gallery for the Direct Purchase Collection.

"City Dance in Three Movements"
John Scott

This playful abstraction is located in the escalator well leading from the Immigrations
Corridor into the Immigrations Baggage Claim. City Dance has three parts, each composed
of brightly colored painted aluminum. Scott deals with the two- and three-dimensional
character of the material. He contemplates the reflective surface, the interaction
between positive and negative space, and the effect of the shapes?shadows on viewers
as people move through the space.
Baggage Claim
"The Flying Companions"
Harriet Bell

Four life-sized fanciful companions greet travelers from atop the Baggage Claim
carousels in Immigrations. Bell created these delightful figures using painted wood.
The resulting compositions are bold and playful, inviting viewers to engage in their
storytelling qualities.
"We Can Go"
Andrew Saftel

Saftel's whimsical wrought-iron vehicles (a train, pane, boat, and rocket ship)
create a multi-media installation for both the walls and carousels in Immigrations.
These imaginative machines?adventurers will be well-equipped for their journey
thanks to the multitude of objects the vehicles contain. Featuring hanging pieces,
paintings, found objects and free-standing sculptures, We Can Go explores travel
and fully commands the large space of the Baggage Claim with its humor.
"The Southern Landscape"
Scott Gilliam
Travelers will be surprised to find a remnant of their flight when they come to
four of the Baggage Claim carrousels in Immigrations. For this artwork, Gilliam
covered the normally drab surfaces with images based on high-altitude photography
of Georgia's topography. The diverse landscape is rich with brilliant color and
varied natural patterns. Passengers will find themselves reliving the sense of soaring
over the coastal marshes, beaches, and the mountains of the South thanks to these
vinyl maps.
