Hartsfield-Jackson Keeping It "Open Day Fresh"
By Charisma Cannon

Imagine walking through a quarter of a century old establishment and thinking "this place looks great, as if it just opened its doors yesterday!" Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport wants its travelers to have that impression. The Airport community has begun "Operation Clean Sweep" campaign to ensure the maintenance, repair and cleanliness of the world's busiest airport is among the best airports in the world.

"To achieve our campaign's goal, we will need to engage all employees and passengers," said Doug Strachan, creative innovations manager for the airport and a member of the committee formed to oversee the "Operation Clean Sweep" campaign. "We want every employee from the airlines to concessions, as well as passengers to have a sense of pride in Hartsfield-Jackson."

And General Manager DeCosta echoes those sentiments.

"We want employees as well as passengers to pitch in when it comes to contributing to the cleanliness of the world's busiest airport," said DeCosta. "As travelers pass through Hartsfield-Jackson, we want them to see the improvements the airport is implementing and understand it takes all of us working together to make a difference."

The "Operation Clean Sweep" campaign will first focus on employees. Every employee will be introduced to the campaign when first hired or renewing their security badges through an educational video with a series of vignettes. The vignettes will illustrate how employees can do their part in keeping the airport clean.

Additionally, the campaign will utilize an educational video to air on the airport's CNN channel explaining how passengers can contribute to the cleanliness of the airport. They also will debut the 770-HJ-CLEAN (770-452-5326) telephone number that passengers can call when they observe a cleanliness infraction.

Other objectives of the "Operation Clean Sweep" campaign involve both short- and long-term projects. Short-term projects include cosmetic upgrades and housekeeping and maintenance issues that are low-cost, easily repairable and improve the appearance of the Airport immediately. Long-term projects include systemic issues that require a longer time to complete and will enhance the functionality of the Airport.

Watch for Hartsfield-Jackson's cleanliness campaign in the coming months. Help us keep a spotless Airport community by doing your part. Keep the Airport "Open Day Fresh!"
